Screen Reader Training and Technical Support

Affordable Screen Reader-Based PC and iPhone Training

Because there are some things Rehab just can’t cover.

Vocational rehabilitation programs often focus on employment-related technology training. But technology can enhance our lives in ways that have nothing to do with work.

I’m Angela Fowler, a lifelong screen reader user and adaptive technology trainer with more than 20 years of experience helping people use technology to do the things that matter to them.

  • For the stay-at-home parent who wants to get better with technology.
  • For the grandparent who wants to email the grandkids, share photos, or keep in touch.
  • For the student who needs a little extra brush-up.
  • For the working professional trying to keep up with changing technology.
  • And for anyone else with something they want to do and a hunger to learn how to do it.

I offer affordable remote, screen reader-based PC and iPhone training built around your life, your goals, and the technology you actually use.

How I Teach

When you’re first learning a screen reader, there are some basics you simply have to learn. You need to know how to navigate, find controls, enter information, move around a document or webpage, and recover when you end up somewhere you didn’t expect.

But once you have those fundamentals, we stop practicing technology for the sake of practicing technology.

Instead, we use it.

Want to order groceries online? We’ll order groceries.

Want to manage your email without getting lost in your inbox? We’ll work with your actual email.

Want to use an app on your iPhone, organize your files, shop online, fill out forms, work with documents, or figure out how to do something nobody ever taught you? That’s what we’ll work on.

The goal isn’t to memorize hundreds of screen reader commands. The goal is to become comfortable using technology to accomplish the things you want to accomplish.

Training That Fits the Way You Learn

Everyone learns differently, and training should reflect that.

Some clients prefer a short lesson with a custom handout so they can practice independently. Others prefer longer sessions where we repeat each process until it becomes comfortable. Some want detailed, step-by-step explanations, while others want just enough guidance to figure things out themselves.

During our initial consultation, we’ll talk about what you want to accomplish, what you already know, and how you learn best. Then we’ll build the training around that.

My Experience

I am a lifelong screen reader user with more than 20 years of experience training others to use assistive technology.

My training experience includes:

  • Windows and PC navigation
  • JAWS and other screen readers
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Internet and web navigation using a variety of browsers
  • iPhone navigation with VoiceOver across a wide variety of apps
  • Everyday technology tasks, including email, online shopping, forms, and file management

And because I use this technology every day myself, I understand the difference between knowing how something is supposed to work and figuring out how to make it work in real life.

Additional Services

Technical Support: Solving the Whole Problem

We all know the frustration of calling tech support only to hear, “That’s not our problem. You need to call the other company’s tech support.”

And round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows.

Spare yourself the hassle.

I troubleshoot the whole problem, rather than stopping at the boundary between one product and another.

If the problem involves Windows, your screen reader, an application, a website, or some combination of them, I’ll work through the problem, research what I need to, and help identify a practical solution.

Whether it’s a screen reader behaving strangely, an application that suddenly stops cooperating, or a website that doesn’t work the way it should, the goal is to get you back to doing what you were trying to do.

Computer Maintenance

Got a computer that’s running slow?

I can help with routine PC maintenance and troubleshooting, including:

  • Windows and Microsoft Office updates
  • JAWS updates
  • Removing unnecessary applications
  • Identifying programs that may be slowing down your computer
  • Basic system maintenance and troubleshooting

The goal is to keep your computer running reliably without making routine maintenance another accessibility headache.

Let’s Talk About What You Want to Accomplish

You don’t need a formal training curriculum, a vocational goal, or a list of screen reader commands you want to master.

You just need something you want to learn, something you want to do, or a problem you want help solving.
