Beyond wheelchair access

Walking through a Physically Accessible World

When people think of physical accessibility they often think of wheelchair access, but physical accessibility benefits everyone, even those with no physical disability. Have you ever knocked something off a store shelf because the aisles were so narrow you couldn’t get through them, or been uncomfortably shoehorned into an airplane seat for several hours? Have you ever shuffled things around because of space limitations, such as moving the coffee pot to the edge of the counter to pour the water in because the cupboard above it was too low? When we can move freely through space, we move more quickly and with fewer accidents.
